Walking beats motivation

Our motivation often change along the way, the challenge is to keep walking in a good direction

Keeping focus along the path

Text and drawing by Frits Ahlefeldt

What motivates us seems to change all the time, depending on what thoughts and unfulfilled needs that surface in our minds

Sometimes all we think about is just to get home safe, other times it is the thought of success or rewards, or finding a place to recharge the batteries. It can be reaching a cozy camp, with a place to spend the night with good friends around the fire. Or how fit or happy one will get at the end of the endeavor.

Often the change of motivation is both fast and continues in many colors and forms, as challenges in the environment, rainy days, uneven trails and dark forests collide with the hopes, ambitions and fears in our heads.

Maybe the real challenge is not to stop our motivation or understanding from changing, but to commit ourselves to keep walking step by step, with the thoughts we have, in a good direction

About Museum of Psychology – Visualizing psychology
We understand reality at least through a combination of impressions, metaphors, images, stories and experiences. But also through our dreams, understandings, feelings, music, walk of life, directions, expectations, relations… and much more.

Much of this have in common that we can somehow sketch up maps and drawings of these places, trails and situations. Here on Museum of Psychology I (Frits Ahlefeldt) am drawing up a slowly growing map of our many landscapes of understanding.
